چکیده

Among the hematologic malignancies, the clinical and biologic significance of chromosome abnormalities have been most extensively studied in the acute leukemias and chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). Clonal chromosome abnormalities are now identified in essentially all cases of CML and in most cases of acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia (ANLL) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). In the acute leukemias, specific chromosome abnormalities have now been correlated with morphology (ANLL), immunologic phenotype (ALL), and various clinical features. In both ANLL and ALL, they have been found to be clinically important as independent risk factors for predicting response to treatment, remission duration, and survival [1-4]. Limited data are available regarding chromosomal abnormalities in malignant lymphoma, other than Burkitt's. The few reported studies of banded chromosomes have generally included small numbers of cases, and primary tumor masses have rarely been the major source of tissue studied. Moreover, for a given lymph node, chromosome findings have rarely been correlated with histology and immunologic pheno-

Sporadic Burkitt Lymphoma: A Case Report

Introduction: Burkitt lymphoma is an aggressive subtype of Hodgkin lymphoma with a doubling time of 25 hours. It is characterized by a MYC gene coding alteration which results from a translocation of chromosome 8 on the MYC gene locus and immunoglobulin heavy-chain locus (IGH) on chromosome 14. Even though HIV infection is associated to an increased risk of Burkitt lymphoma, th...

Prediction of Clinical Course and Biologic Behavior of the Bone Giant Cell Tumor Using Bax and bcl-2 Markers

Background and Objectives: Giant cell Tumor of bone (GCT) is often regarded as a benign tumor, but its clinical course is unpredictable, has a high rate of recurrence, and even can metastases and transform to a malignant tumor. Histological features of the tumor often could not predict its future biologic behavior, so it is just called ''Giant cell tumor'' without indicating maligna...

PRIMARY MALIGNANT LYMPHOMA OF THE BREAST

A case of primary malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the breast is reported. This is the first well-documented case of breast lymphoma in our institution and also in Iran. The diagnosis of primary breast lymphoma requires the presence of lymphomatous infiltration in close ass, tissue in patients with neither previous lymphoma nor concurrent lymphoma in another site. There is no definite cl...

Effects of Karyotype Variations on Phenotype of Patients with Turner Syndrome

Background: Turner syndrome (TS) is a sporadic disorder caused by the absence of all or some parts one X-chromosome with major developmental consequences such as short stature and ovarian failure etc. The minor manifestations of TS are cubitus valgus, micrognatism, high-arched palate, short and/or webbed neck, hypothyroidism, etc. Different karyotype abnormalities may lead to different clinical...

Clinical correlations of chromosome change in human solid tumors: the tip of the iceberg?

It is now clearly recognized that a large variety of human cancers (including many solid tumors) display recurring chromosome abnormalities. However, what is the biologic significance of these findings? How do these chromosomal changes relate to changes in expression of important growth regulatory genes, e.g., cellular oncogenes? What clinical significance, if any, do specific cytogenetic abnor...
